New Board Members Welcome

The Old Saybrook Land Trust is run by an all-volunteer board. If you are interested in playing a unique role in preserving and protecting Old Saybrook’s wealth of natural resources, please consider a position on the Old Saybrook Land Trust Board of Directors. If you or someone you know may be interested, please pass this on.  Time, ideas, professional services or technical assistance – local action can have a profound impact on our town and the natural world around us.

The Old Saybrook Land Trust was established in 1997 to provide a vehicle for the protection of land and the preservation of our town’s natural resources.

The land trust is a voluntary, non-profit 501(c)3 organization supported by financial contributions from individuals and businesses that share a commitment to protect the natural beauty of Old Saybrook.

Working with private landowners, the Old Saybrook Land Trust has helped protect over 400 acres through outright donation, purchase, or conservation easement, and we continue to work actively to secure important land acquisitions.

The land trust also assists town residents in understanding the environmental significance of their properties, and was instrumental in working with more than 200 private property owners to arrange state funding to treat and control phragmites in the marshlands of North and South Coves.

And finally, the land trust provides a wide range of educational programs for interested individuals of all ages who want to learn about, and more fully appreciate our natural environment.

The scheduled meetings of the Old Saybrook Land Trust Board of Directors are on the 4th Tuesday each month at the Park and Recreation Building on Sheffield Street.  We invite you to attend these meetings to find out how you might become more involved in your land trust as either a member of the board or as a volunteer. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact us.

The coming years promise to be an exciting time for the Old Saybrook Land Trust as we continue to grow in our commitment to preserve our community’s connection to the land and natural world around us.  You can have a role in this extraordinary opportunity to determine what Old Saybrook looks like over time, and whether our children of today will become the stewards of tomorrow.
